This is the best tasting sweet & sour chicken that I have ever had. I have tried sweet & sour chicken at every possible restaurant and nothing can come any close to this. Yes I am claiming that really loud. I am in love with this recipe.

I am so so glad I did not ignore this recipe post on my facebook wall. I am happy that I stopped and clicked on the recipe and read through it. I am very pleased that I decided to bookmark it and prepare it. My husband and my mother in law liked it too.

Everyone who reads this post should give it a try. If you are a vegetarian then make it with cauliflower or any other vegetable of choice. If you are a seafood lover then make it with fish or shrimps but make it. You will be glad you did. Your family will lick their plates and fingers. Trust me. I am going to try making this next time with fish fillets.

Here is the recipe..

Serves 2-3 as a snack

Ingredients :
Chicken breast - 250 grams, boneless, skinless
Salt to Taste
Pepper to Taste
Corn flour - 1/2 cup, use as much as required
Egg - 1
Oil for frying - 6 Tablespoons
Sugar - 1/4 cup + 1/8 cup
Tomato Ketchup - 2 Tablespoons
White Vinegar - 1/4 cup
Soy Sauce - 1/2 Tablespoon
Garlic Powder - 3/4 Teaspoon
Red Chilli Flakes a pinch
Sesame Seeds - 1/2 Tablespoon, use more or less (optional)

Method :
1. Cut the chicken into bite sized small pieces.
2. Wash it well and drain all the water. Use a kitchen towel to pat dry if desired.
3. Add salt and pepper to taste and mix well.
4. Add cornflour and mix well to coat. I did not need the entire 1/2 cup so use as required. The chicken should be completely powder coated.
5. Beat an egg slightly and pour it over the chicken and mix well to coat the chicken pieces.
6. Heat oil in a frying pan to shallow fry the chicken. You may deep fry them too.
7. Fry the chicken pieces on medium flame till they are cooked and just start to turn brown. Do not completely fry them. I used very little oil and it took me about 6 batches to fry the entire chicken pieces.
8. Remove onto absorbent paper towels.
9. Preheat oven to 160C.
10. Place the chicken pieces in a greased baking dish. I used my loaf pan.
11. In a mixing bowl add sugar, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, garlic powder and chilli flakes and mix well till the sugar dissolves. This is your sweet and sour sauce. (Dip a piece of chicken in this sauce and try, yummy we loved it as is)
12. Pour this sauce over the chicken pieces arranged in the baking dish. You may use 3/4th and reserve the remaining 1/4th to use as a dip. I poured all of it.
13. Bake for 45 minutes. Stir the chicken every 15 minutes without fail. I was so scared, I stirred it every 12 minutes and baked it only for 35 odd minutes. Bake for 35-45 minutes depending on your oven.
14. At the end of the 35-45 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven, Increase the oven temperature to 190C.
15. Sprinkle sesame seeds if using all over the chicken pieces and mix.
16. Bake for a final 10-15 minutes. You need to watch the chicken now carefully so it doesn't burn. I baked only for 10 final minutes at 190C.
17. Best served warm.

Enjoy Sweet & Sour Sesame Chicken.
