What doesn't look good with a new Avatar? Even the most boring food can be made appealing just by presenting it in the right way. There are not many who dislike puff pastry. Young and old both enjoy puff pastry equally with filling of choice.
I came across this very interesting new shape for a puff pastry on my friend's facebook page and captured a screen shot to try it out. I made puff pastry with grated cheese, choco chips and mixed fruit jam as filling. You can add any sweet or savory filling of your choice.
Do not fold your puffs into triangle or rectangle but make these pretty shaped puff pastries for your family and guests and surprise them. Have you tried making the very pretty rose rolls using puff pastry yet? If not you should give them a try too.
Here is the recipe..
Makes 4 puff pastries
Ingredients :
Puff pastry - 4 squares
Filling of choice
Egg wash - optional (I did not use)
Method :
1. Thaw the puff pastry squares either in a refrigerator or on counter top. Make sure you place them in the refrigerator once they are thawed till they are being used. If using bigger sheets, cut them into squares.
2. Preheat oven to 210C.
3.Place one square of puff pastry on a work surface and leaving a small border make a slit on all four sides with a gap unslit mid way. The slit on each side should be almost till mid way. Then leave some gap and slit again. The picture below will explain better.
4. Place filling of choice in the centre of the puff pastry.
5. Bring two opposite corners together and pich the puff pastry so that it sticks well. You can use a wet finger to seal it.
6. Bring the other two opposite corners over the previous sealed corners and seal again. open the bows formed if they do not open up.
7. Shape the four corners into boat with your fingers so that the filling doesn't ooze out. It also beautifies the puff pastry.
8. Keep the prepared, shaped puff pastry in the refrigerator till ready to be baked.
9. Prepare the remaining puff pastries in the same way. I made 2 with jam filling, one with grated cheese and one with choco chips.
10. Arrange the puff pastries on a baking tray and bake for 12-18 minutes till golden and well cooked.
Enjoy puff pastry with filling.
